Video: The Laser Lipo Treatment

Body contouring expert Dr. Lori Brightman explains the laser lipo procedure

What is CoolLipo?

CoolLipo is a new device which improves the body contour using laser liposuction. It can help remove fat using a laser which heats the fat until it is liquefied and then is broken down and removed from the body. Unlike standard liposuction which can involve a prolonged healing period, CoolLipo does not require extensive downtime due to its minimally-invasive nature.

How does CoolLipo work?

CoolLipo uses a minimally-invasive technique to remove fat. A minimally invasive procedure usually means a much smaller incision is made into the skin and less bleeding and swelling results. This means that rather than a fully-invasive procedure like standard liposuction, with its associated use of general or tumescent anesthesia, swelling, bleeding and long healing time, CoolLipo patients heal quicker and with less bruising.

What does it treat?

CoolLipo may be used to remove unwanted pockets of fat on the body and to improve the overall body shape. Back fat, lower and upper abdomen, arms, neck and legs may all safely be treated with CoolLipo. An added benefit to laser liposuction is that the laser used to melt away the fat also heats the skin, causing collagen and elastin to be created. This leads to smoother looking skin, less skin looseness and better results.

Does it Hurt?

There is some discomfort during a CoolLipo treatment as the laser fiber is advanced through the treatment area, however in most cases there is little or no pain. Your treating physician may provide you with local or tumescent anesthesia to minimize any discomfort during the procedure.

The CoolLipo Treatment

During a procedure your physician will create a small incision in the treatment area to create an access point for the laser to enter. The laser heats the fat under the skin to destroy any fat cells which are then removed. This may take from one to three hours depending on the area of the body.

Recovery Time

Typically patients are able to return to their normal activities the following day, though some compression stockings may be worn for several days depending on the advice of your physician. Your doctor may review any risks or downtime with you during your consultation.

CoolLipo Cost

The cost of a CoolLipo procedure may vary greatly depending on your doctor, the body part being lasered, the area you live in, and other variables. Generally speaking the cost may range from $2000 to $6500. During your consultation your doctor will discuss your cost and options.
